Something to look forward to!

FireworksFireworksI don’t know about all of you but I am sooo ready for spring and summer. I am tired of being cold. I haven’t actually counted but someone told me that it has snowed 11 times this season. Enough is enough! Anyway, we all have something to look forward to–I was at our City Council meeting last night and plans are beginning for our annual “Saturday in the Park” event. I was appointed to the committee to help with the planning of the event. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Others on the committee are Pastor Don Herren, Randy Jackson, Eddie Lester, and Gary DeShazer. I can’t wait to start planning–I am so ready for the nicer weather. I don’t know what all will be on the agenda for this year but in the past there have been great food, great music, crafts, a 4th of July parade, Fireworks display, carnival rides for the kids, a lawn tractor pull, volleyball tournament and so much more. I am sure I am not remembering everything–but I do know it is a GREAT EVENT! Mark it on your calendar-Saturday, June 28, 2008. DON’T MISS IT!!! I think I might be feeling a little warmer already–it’s all in the mind.  Come back often to see what’s new at Rumors Has It! and for updates on “Saturday in the Park”

Twinkie Cake

twinkie.jpgI’ve had this recipe for years and had never made it (didn’t know what I was missing), but my daughter Kallie saw it in my recipe box this weekend so we made it. It was really quite good–it truly tasted like twinkies. It disappeared the first day!!

Bake a chocolate or yellow cake mix in a 13×9 inch cake pan following the directions on the box. Now if you have a favorite yellow or chocolate cake recipe you could use that instead of a box mix but we just used a generic yellow cake mix and it was great. Don’t forget to coat the pan with butter/shortening and flour–this is IMPORTANT because you want to be able to easily remove the cake from the pan when it has cooled.

FILLING:

5 T. flour

1 c. milk

1/2 c. butter or margarine

1/2 c. shortening

1 c. sugar (granulated)

1 t. vanilla

While the cake is cooling, mix the flour and milk in a sauce pan and (more…)
