Earth Day Tip #1–Save the planet one outfit at a time!
I operate a resale/consignment store so naturally my first earth day tip is in regards to shopping resale. Shopping resale not only saves households money it also helps to re-duce, re-use, and re-cycle our resources. Shopping resale and/or consigning your previously loved items is a simple and rewarding way to help the environment and save money. As prices for new items and gasoline continue to rise, shopping resale is becoming very popular across the nation. Did you know that only about 25% of our nations textile waste gets recycled and just less than half of that is sent to third world countries to clothe the world’s poorest people. This is accomplished through the efforts of the Council for Textile Recycling. The remaining 75% of our nations textile waste ends up in landfills and makes up about 5% of the landfills waste. (Paper is the largest item filling our landfills).
But what an EASY way to help reduce what goes to landfills–go here for tips on sorting and preparing out your previously loved items.
Cya in store soon!
