Together We Can!

together-we-can.jpgRemember that I posted a while back that I am serving on the Saturday in the Park committee?  This is our City’s annual celebration for Independence Day and it occurs the weekend prior to July 4th, so this year it is June 27 and June 28th.   Anyway, we have starting meeting and planning and I have to tell you I am SO EXCITED!  I guarantee you this promises to be a bigger and better event than ever before.  We have some great people on the committee with some GREAT ideas.  I can hardly wait until the 27th.  SO MUCH to do before then.

One thing that we are doing is we have selected a theme for this year’s event–”TOGETHER WE CAN!”.  I just LOVE it!  It says SO much!  We have such an outstanding community in Scranton and our youth are just so AWESOME!    I think this theme just speaks volumes to togetherness, community, unity, cooperation, success and MORE!

Any way, to promote our theme, we are sponsoring a logo contest at the local school, Scranton Attendance Center.  The students are being asked to design a logo for our theme and we will use the logo in our advertising and in promoting our theme and event.  The winning student will receive a $50.00 saving bond which has been donated by the Kansas State Bank.

Be sure to mark this event on your calendar, you really won’t want to miss.  Check our blog often for more updates!

Earth Day

earth-day.jpgDid you know that April 22, 2008 is “Earth Day”.

I thought it would be fun to post a “green living” or “frugal living” tip for each day during the month of April to kind of help us all think about things we can do to live more frugally and more eco-friendly. There are so many things we can do to make a difference which really are not hard to do.

So watch for a blog post tomorrow and hopefully each day this month for a tip. If you have any tips don’t hesitate to send them to me at Rhonda@RumorsHasItOnline.com or just reply to one of the blog posts.

Pizza, Pizza, Oh how I love Pizza!!

rhonda-at-oven.jpgIt’s been just over a year since we closed Memory Lane Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor. I still hear from everyone how much they miss it.  Just like our shirts said, it truly was a “pizza eater’s paradise”.  I still have kids in town calling me the  “pizza lady” when they see me around.  It really is cool!  Thank you to everyone who is still so loyal.  I have even had one loyal past customer tell me that his child cries every time Memory Lane Pizza is mentioned because it is missed so much.  Boy, I miss it too!

I love my new resale shop-Rumors HAS IT!, and I love being home at night with my family. BUT, I haven’t had a good pizza since we closed.

We’ve made pizza a few times at home (once was actually the worst pizza we’ve ever had and I didn’t think any pizza could be THAT bad, LOL) and we’ve ordered a few times from some chains in Topeka, nothing compares to Memory Lane Pizza. Tonight we bought a couple of those frozen Freschetta pizzas and I doctored them up with some extra toppings and cheese. They weren’t bad. It’s sad when a couple of frozen pizzas turn out to be the best pizza we’ve had in a year.

If you frequented Memory Lane Pizza, then you know that I could eat pizza everyday of the week (and I nearly did for 8 years).  My favorite on my menu was the Triple S. We sold a lot of those, remember it had canadian bacon, pineapple, bacon bits and jalepenos. YUM! YUM! It was sweet, spicey and salty all at once, that’s why I named it the Triple S. My mouth is watering. I always had lots of sauce too, our sauce had so much tomato flavor. Oh, it was GOOD!   And we had the BEST cheese and SO MUCH of it!!

Oh, and the German Pizza, canadian bacon and sauerkraut–it was my second favorite!  Our Santa Fe Chicken Special was another really popular pie, it had a spicier sauce and was layered with canadian bacon, bacon bits, and diced chicken and was often ordered with onions and green peppers added.

WOW!  I guess I am just really hungry tonight.   I really MUST figure out how to make a good pizza at home, but it just is not the same without those big old Blodgett gas ovens with the stone decks.   That is just really hard to duplicate at home.

If any of you find a good pizza within driving distance, please let me know!  I really need a GOOD pizza fix!!

In the meantime, be sure to check us out at Rumors HAS IT! Resale Shop.  It’s the best kept secret in Osage County–a resale shopper’s paradise!
